sneaky cheeky comments

I have removed all (I think) of the little comments that have wandered into my blog as spam. In November, my comments number spiked full of exciting porn and online pharmacy comments. Also, some folks posted in order to get their own pages noticed, I think. Thanks, but no thanks. Also, one of the little porn commenters actually worked up a nice offensive comment about Act Up into the mix! I'm surprised they have enough time to personalize like that.

Here's some software for movable type that prevents faux-commenters by using a blacklist: http://www.jayallen.org/projects/mt-blacklist/ - I like blacklists abstractly but wonder about vendetta potential. My favorite spam reducing concept is probably in development in various places now - a "spam" folder in your inbox that you put spam in, and everyone in your company gets one, and the collective ranking of spamminess is determined by all of the collective. That's the kind of collaborative spirit that makes use of everyone's delete key.
